ust want to share my interview. late nga lang, sorry!

Appointmnet date: July 6, 2001 at 6:30 am

I woke up at 3:58 in the morning to prepare myself. had my shower and breakfast. I arrived at the Embassy at 5:40 and immediately went in line. 5 minutes before 6:30 the guards assisted us to get in the Embassy. At the entrance, they asked for my 2sets DS forms (156, 156K and 157) plus my 2 of US VISA photos. At the second gate, the guard inspected my folder and my purse to be sure no ammunitions carried LOL.

Inside, i fell in line again for the first presentation of my BPI receipt, passport and the 2 sets of DS forms. I was asked here if i already had my medical. after that, they returned my passport and all the DS forms together with my photos and the BPi receipt and was instructed to drop them, except for the passport, at window 39 and i was given my number 7006. Lucky number for me.

we went to another door and there we were once again inspected of our belongings. i made sure that i have nothing in my possesion that would cause me trouble (perfumes, lotions, or anything sharp or water, food). I dropped my DS forms at window 39 and waited for my number to appear at the screen. from that moment, i just kept looking at the screen because i did not want to miss my number, and kept praying for God's intercession on my application.

At 7:10 my number appeared on the screen for me to approach Window 48.
At window 48, i was greeted "Hi Joylyn" by a Filipino prescreener/interviewer. I replied Hi good morning. he was wearing a pleasant smile. He asked me for my birth certificate followed by my Marriage certificate and the Court Order. He asked me if i was married before and I said yes. he asked how can I marry when I am married, i told him the Court had decreed I can marry. He seeked clarification from his co worker about the court decree. I was intensely watching them talk but i couldn't hear exactly what was said but i understand that the co worker was saying that "paper is OK". I was smiling deep inside me, thanking and praying more that no issues will come up regarding my Court decree.he asked for my NBI clearance, the Affidavit of support (134) and Income tax proof. He also asked for copies of My fiance's divorce decrees. when i was giving him the divorce decree he said no thank you I have them here.

THE questions the filipino interviewer asked me:
Do u and randall have children? None
How many children does your fiance have? 2
Ages of Randall's children? 30 and 29
Oh they are adults!!? yes
How about you, do u have Children? 3
do u have Minor children? Yes
Why was he not petitioned? No, because my child decided to continue his college studies at the University of the Philippines.
Oh i understand, you can petition him later.
You were in the US with your fiance in June 2010, why did you not marry him? No, we did not like to violate my visa and I was not yet legally permitted to marry. he said, yes i can see from your papers.
You have a sister in Mass? yes
You applied for tourist visa in Octo 2010? yes
what happened? denied
Do you know the reason why it was denied? the blue paper said blah blah blah..
Tell me exactly the reason why? ummmm the consul said i dont...blah blah
the exact reason? at this point i needed to be honest, so I told him, can i be honest? he said yes. so i said with humility the reason why i think my application was denied and he smiled.
Your traveled to US in 2009, You went to Canada? do you have family there? yes
You have travelled alot in Asian countries, what have u been doing there? tour
Yes I know you were on tour, what exactly were you doing there? shopping, dining site seeing
For all those years you were touring, were you not working? I was and I am still working. he looked at my DS form and asked
You only have one employer from the time u started to work? Yes
Whom were you traveling with? my daughter, my lawyer friends, co workers.
DO you have other proof of relationship with Randall? yes
Do you have photos together? Yes (I gave him 23 photos Randall prepared for me)
He looked at them, all of the photos and he was (i think) enjoying.
when do u intend to leave for the US? (in my DS form I left this question unanswered) I asked him if I can write one month after July 6, he said it is ok, u can write any date you want it is tentative. so I said August 6, 2011. I returned to him my DS form.
At this time he let me sign the DS form (one copy only)

He looked at me and said, Joylyn relax and I looked back and he said you may have your seat, wait for your number to be called again. Maybe it appeared to him that i did not understand what he said so he said "good luck to your wedding", you may seat now. I said Thank you 2 times. My time at window 48 was 20 minutes and i can say it was very fair.

At 8:20 my number appeared again at the screen, i approached window 40 form my finger scan.
after 40 minutes of waiting my number appeared again and I approached the line leading to window 61.

after 10 minutes, A lady (White American) Consul greeted me "hi Joylyn" and i replied Hi, Goodmorning! She asked me to raise my right hand and take my oath blah blah blah. she looked briefly at the 2 inches thick papers because she was looking for the divorce decrees. She said Randall is a divorcee and say yes. after a while, she look at me and said are you aware that you must marry your fiance within 90 from your arrival in the US? I said with conviction and warmth in my heart "yes". I was sooooooo happy because no questions were asked by the Lady consul. But had she asked I could have answered all because the Filipino pre interviewer had asked mo lots of questions already. hahahaha. The Consul said "Joylyn your visa is approved, Good luck to your wedding, you may seat and wait for your number to be called for further instruction. I said thank you and looked at her with a nice smile.

At 9:30 my number was called, I waited in line at Window 72. There, I was intructed to wait for the "to go" to deliver my Visa.

At exactly 9:35 am, i was off from the US embassy Manila.

The K1 Visa Journey was stressful but rewarding after I heard the Lady consul say the visa is approve!!!

Good luck sa lahat ng mga "for interview" and to all PL sisters.

Thank you Dear God for guiding us. I promise to Love Randall more and

Joylyn Ambiong STB Reid

I slept for only 1 and a half hour the night before my interview. I'm nervous, excited and happy. I talked with my fiance and told him not to break up with me If ever I will be denied. I woke up at 4:00 am, had shower and travel to Manila. I live in Cavite and my friend accompanied me to the embassy.

It's chilly and rainy when we arrived. It's 5:30 am and a lot of people were outside the embassy and falling in line. I met a girl named Rina who is with her fiance. She even had her picture taken again because she is wearing dangling earrings on her US Visa 2x2 picture. It is also allowed to bring your Fiance with you on the interview.

I can't remember if it's 6:30 am or was it 6am? that we finally enter the Embassy. Before you will get in, there's a lady who will get your documents and will check it if it's complete. Be ready with your appointment letter, BPI receipt, DS Forms and passport. After checking if it's complete we went inside the building and put our things on the xray scanner, get out of the door and fall in line again to drop our forms for checking. I was confused when I saw people holding a pink slip and we thought we needed one too. However, don't be confused it's not needed for K1 Applicants. Once you're near those windows where you will drop your form, all the k1 applicant were not segregated anymore, we will join the other immigrant applicants. There are three windows, window 1, 2 and 3.  I went to window 1 and gave her the forms that was checked by the lady outside the embassy. Be sure it's complete or else she will get pissed off. She was sort of bitchy while talking with another k1 applicant asking her where  the bpi receipt is. I gave her my forms, she told me to push it near her because she can't reach it. I just want to throw it on her face instead (haha). She stapled the forms and told me to drop it on window 39.

When I enter the building, this is where I had my finger scanning, initial interview and final interview. I gave my things on the lady guard and she checked it. I passed another xray or body scanner. I dropped my forms on Window 39 and looked  for a seat. Few minutes ago, I can't remember the exact minutes that I waited for my initial interview, I saw my number 6040 flashed and I have to go to window 47.
It is an old filipino man with eyeglasses, which makes me feel more nervous, some old people tend to be moralistic and judgemental. He asked me the ff. questions:
The questions are in tagalog but I'll write it in English because I'll share this post in Visa Journey too. My documents are complete, baptismal certificate is not really needed but some pre screener asked for it.  My DS forms are answered correctly too. He even deleted the date on my ds156k but he realized that the date written is correct.
*Name?
*Age?
*Birthday?
*Name of petitioner?
*Birthday?
Then he started murmuring, 25 years age gap.  But he did not question me about it. Even if he will I'm prepared for an answer. Besides, even if I'm in a 25 year age gap, I'm already old enough to be in a relationship even if with someone older than me.
*How did you meet?
Through www.okcupid.com last february 2009.
*How many times did he visit you?
3 times already, with the duration of 1 month for each visit.
*What's your job?
I told him I'm a student again taking educational units but I worked for 4 years as an Online English teacher.
*What's the job of your fiance?
I answered, Stripper! (haha, just kidding.)
I told him that my fiance is working as Construction Site Manager.
*When was the last time you've seen him?
November 23, 2010
*Is he married before, with children?
I answered NO. Bachelor at 50, never been married, no kids.
*Did you get married before? Have you tried living with someone or with a boyfriend?
(I answered no. I'm a VIRGIN. How could you ask that immoral question?)
ahahaha.
But that's not my real answer. Just plain NO.
*Do you have pictures together, receipts for money sent?
I showed it to him.
*Do you have baptismal certificate? NBI? CENOMAR, Birth certificate?
I told him that I don't have my Baptismal certificate but I have the other documents I gave the NBI, CENOMAR and BIRTH CERTIFICATE. He asked for my affidavit of support too. He did not bother to look for the pay stub and bank statement. He told me to sit down and my name will be called for final interview.

I waited for few more minutes and saw 6040 flashed again and I should go to window 40. It's for finger scanning, The lady there will ask for your name and birthday and you will give your number to another lady outside the window who will assist you in finger scanning. Scan your four fingers, left and right then after that your left and right thumb.
I'm back to my seat again and I keep on looking at the other applicants, hoping I could see Ann Marie Lim. I saw her but she's not looking at me yet.

Now, I'm starting to get nervous. I had a brief conversation with one IR1/CR1 applicant. She told me that she prefers a man for initial interview than a woman because they asked easy questions. I told her that the man who asked me for my initial interview asked some questions like living together with someone and commenting about age gap.

I think it was 8:30 when I saw my number flashed and I should go to window 62. I'm not sure if you should wait for your name to be called before going to the window. I went there, he was surprised to see me because he didn't call my name yet. He was a young handsome american man who resembles one man from my past. I really thought it's him :( I was so scared and nervous.  He asked me to raise my right hand and he read something, and I answered Yes.
He started asking questions, I'm still not relaxed that time.
*Have you been to US? Have you worked in US?
NO
*How did you meet him?
Through online dating site, www.okcupid.com.
*When did you meet him on that site?
February 2009.
I gave very short answers. Usually just one sentences. Concise but complete.
*When did he ask to marry you?
January 26, 2010
(The truth is were supposed to file the documents last year but then I was not ready that time. I did not include the reason in answering to avoid further questions.)
*How many times did he visit you?
Three times
*When was the last time you saw each other?
November 23, 2010
*Did he meet your family?
NO. But he wil this October. (I'm not sure if he heard it)
*How come he visited already for three times and he haven't met your family?
(I tried to relax and composed myself for me to answer that tough question)
My mom is working in middle east and my dad is in Bicol.
(It seems that he doesn't know where bicol is, haha. He did not ask further question about it. My mother talked with my boyfriend thru skype already, my siblings saw him on skype too but my father didn't. We started as friends, so how will I introduce him to my family during his fist visit, I don't want to assume. On his 2nd visit, we talked about marriage when he was about to leave the country, not even a formal engagement, no engagement ring. The second visit was suppose to be just for us to know each other better. The third visit, I'm suppose to meet my parents but then my mom started announcing to my relatives that I'm coming with my boyfriend on our hometown. I don't want a circus and I don't want to brag about him and have a big party to introduce him. I want a simple dinner only. I decided not to go to my hometown but this year for his next vacation, we will, just to meet my dad)
*What does he do?
He is a Construction Site Manager.
*Where does he live?
He lives in Honolulu Hawaii.
*Do you have pictures together?
YES. I showed him my file, and he just browsed 2 pages.
*Do you promise to get married within 90 days?
I answered  Yes.
It seems that we don't have any problem with your documents. Then I think you will be approved. He put a big check mark on my document and asked me to take a seat and someone will call my name later. I was confused. He didn't tell me the magic line "YOU'RE APPROVED"!  He used the word" I think". But then I realized maybe he wants to go over to some of my documents.

The lady at Window 72 called up my name along with other applicants. She gave my appointment letter with a red mark for my address telling me to wait for my VISA to be delivered by 2GO on the address written. I'm very happy :)

I saw Ann Marie Lim when I was about to leave the Embassy and had a short talk with her. I'm done at 9:00 am :) Thank you Pretty Ladies :)

Just be confident and make sure your documents are complete.  Organize it so you won't have hard time looking for it and don't be nervous if the CONSUL is handsome  :) My review is really long, I was into it  :)

Started at 4 am this morning. Left at 4:50 am. Walked to embassy, arrived at 5:15 am. Walked past embassy gate 1 to embassy gate 2. Went to waiting area which is at south end of embassy area. This is where the crossover bridge is at at he south part of the embassy. Wait towards the road, not towards the back part by manila bay. It will place you farther back in line. Wait up by the bridge area.

You will be lined up in rows according to time. Expect to wait after lines set up. Make sure you are in the right line for your time and purpose.

then you go through "tent check". this is where her parents were denied access. We did paper check and passport check to enter. Here they want to see passport, appointment letter, receipt and forms ds-156, ds-156k, and ds157.
After this you go throug ha scanner into the "ticketing" area. You are in line for windows 1/2/3. Any window will do. they will look at your forms, and issue you a number. For K-1 visa expect a Regular (type IV) number. Our number was 6044. After this you go past the outside waiting area, walk to the left up the stairs through the doors. (go through the right side), make sure to press down on the latch to open the door (and it is heavy to open) Go through another screening. Purses and docs will be searched. (open and place on desk, then go through scanner.

Once through, drop off appointment letter "apck" given at the ticket window at window 39. (This is an unmanned window), do not worry, someone will pick up the forms every so often.

At this point wait for number on board. My girl did not understand the process. This is not something Filipinos are accustomed to as in America. this process makes them more nervous on the number waiting system.

First window called to was pre-screen. I kept my mouth shut, answered questions when asked. Provided forms as necessary to help gretchen. Questions I can remember:
1) who is the petitioner?
2) what is your fiancee's full name?
2a) what is your birthdate?
3) Can I have the following forms?
ds-156
ds-156k
ds-157
NBI
Cenomar
I-134
Last year's tax return
w-2
4) when did you first meet
4) how did you meet?
5) when did you first meet in person?
6) what is your fiancee's full name?
7) Is this you fiancee's second trip?
8) do you have any kids?
9) have you ever been married?
10) Has your fiance ever been married?
11) Do he have kids?
12) Have you been fingerprinted?
13) when did you arrive in Philippines?
14) how long in Philippines?
15) are those photos? (4 photo books)
16) can I see? (flip through one album a few pages)

All done with that section.

Went back and sat down. After a while Gretchen was clled to be fingerprinted.
Fingerprinting is inkless and at window 40 today. Everyone for fingerprinting is window 40 as of right now. Name, birthdate, ok let's scan your hands.

Now to sit and wait again.... and wait and wait. Long wiat this time. People are finishing up. Good sign we are near the end as well.

We get called to the "door" 69. Sit down and get sworn in. We had a lady. She joked about the file. Largest file she has ever seen. My comment was I asked about sending chat logs in. I called twice about it. they said to send it all in. She commented it took two people to bring the paperwork to the desk. She swore us in. And we answered the questions. This was not a quick and simple interview. It was long. She looked for the Divorce decree and looked at it. Commented on when my divorce was. the proceeded to ask
when we met,
first time we met in person.
When I came over this time.
has she ever been married
does she have kids
have I ever been married
has she ever travelled outside of the Philippines
has she ever lived outside of the philippines
do you know you have to marry in 90 days
when is the wedding planned
when are you planning on going to USA

ok everything looks good, you ar epproved. Congrats on coming to the USA. Please wiat for window 73 to call you.

Ma'am could we pick up visa? "What are the circumstances?" Work, her village flooded, taking college courses. We are in manila through Saturday, then in her vilalge through the 18th.

We won't have the visa printed by Friday as of this time. But I will put in an expedite for the visa to be printed and delivered to you. Thank you Ma'am, appreciate it.

window 73, everything is good, we will be issuing a visa. Please go to window 69 for delivery instructions.

Window 69 dor delivery, have to pick at local 2go branch near her home. Will not deliver to village. Will track through 2g0 website. All done and good to go. time to head out into the rain.... walked back past the screening entrance, back throught the outdoor tourism waiting area (covered), back past ticket window, then out the exit door to the area next to the "tent check". walked out the exit on the left to the exit on roxas. bought a couple of umbrellas, and went to crossover to meet her parents and catch a taxi back to the hotel. Lots of water, must have been raining right after we started the process.

took us from 4:50 am to 9:50 am. (hotel door to hotel door) Done very quickly.

Glory to God!... i just wanna share this bible verse .. my life verse JEREMIAH 29:11

Well our visa was approved today and the process was mostly painless. I will try to get a short synopsis of everything I did from start to finish. Others may have done it their own way and that is fine, just sharing what I did.

When I filled out the initial petition I scanned it and sent it via email to my fiancé and had her sign it, scan it, and send it back. We also did the any other documents she needed to sign this way as well. I had her go take some pictures, scan them and email them to me as well. When I got them I used the online tool on the USCIS site and made sure they were the right size and then I printed them out on some photo paper. Everything was accepted and I didn’t receive an RFE for anything. I know other folks mailed and got original signatures for everything but that just didn’t make sense to me. However, everyone needs to do what gives them peace of mind and I was fine with doing it this way.

When I got my NVC notification I waited a couple of days and called and they gave me my case number. When we got this we paid the Visa fee at BPI and did the medical the following week, which I am glad we did because she had to do the Sputum test so that pushed us back a few weeks.

Once the results came back negative we scheduled the interview. We could have done it earlier but I wanted to be here to ease her mind as I know she was nervous.
We got to the embassy about 5 am, I wish I wouldn’t have gone so early as there is really no need. I am glad I read one review the other day though about not standing back by the seawall. If you listen to the hawkers they will tell you to line up by time but don’t listen to them at all. The guards will come out and tell everyone to line up by time inside the barriers. You go through a line outside where they check your appointment letter and her passport. Make sure you get a 2GO delivery form at this point, they forgot to give us one.

You go through security screening and get in another line where your DS forms are checked and given a number. Once inside the interview area we dropped off all the DS forms, appointment letter at window 39. This started the process. We had to wait a while and was called to Window 56. Now this is where my experience may differ from most. We handed the affidavit of support, supporting documentation, and supporting evidence. There was a Filipina screener there and she asked my fiancée only 3 questions…how we met,had she been outside the country and how often I came. When she told her I am there every month she was a little surprised. She asked me about my daughter and did I have a job, I just gave her my employment verification and she was fine. We only had three pictures because I hate taking them but I had one of my daughter and my fiancée taken when she came over with me one trip.

From there we got went next to the fingerprint station and this was the only headache. The fingerprints didn’t take but they didn’t tell us until an hour later so we waited all that time for nothing. Once the fingerprints were taken again we went back and sat for another 30 minutes. We got called up to window 61 and we greeted the American consular. He was friendly and looked over the paperwork. Once we were sworn in he asked her..1.How did we meet. 2. Had she traveled outside the country. He asked me what brought me over and when I told him I am here all the time we just pretty much talked and joked about the PI for a while. He then looked at my fiancée and told her congrats that she is approved. After that we went to window 68 and 69 for the 2GO form which we changed to a pick up at a 2GO outlet.

The process was pretty simple and we had our forms all together. However, like I said I am in the PI every month on business or vacation because I live in Guam. It was pretty easy to see we had been together for a while and it was not a scam marriage. I would still recommend having all that evidence that people suggest because I saw a few get turned down and they had books of evidence where we only had a small binder holding our forms. Good luck to everyone on their journey as well.
